  "Just Playing"

When I'm building in the block room, Please don't say I'm "just playing." For, you see, I'm learning as I play, about balance, I may be an architect someday.

When I'm getting all dressed up, setting the table, caring for the babies, Don't get the idea I'm "just  playing." I may be a mother or a father someday.

When you see me up to my elbows in paint, or standing at an easel, or molding and shaping clay, Please don't let me hear you say, "he is just playing." For, you see, I'm learning as I play. I just might be a teacher someday.

When you see me engrossed in a puzzle or some "playing" at my school, Please don't feel the time is wasted in "play." For, you see, I'm learning as I play.  I'm learning to solve problems and concentrate. I may be in a business someday.

When you see me cooking or tasting foods, please don't think that's because I enjoy it, it is "Just Play."I'm learning to follow directions and see the differences. I may be a cook someday.
When you see me learning to skip, hop, rum and move my body, Please don't say I'm "Just playing." For, you see, I'm learning as I play. I'm learning how my body works. I may be a doctor, nurse or athlete someday.

When you ask me what I've done at school today, and I say, "I Just Played." please don't misunderstand me. For, you see I'm learning as I play. I'm learning to enjoy and be successful in my work. I'm preparing for tomorrow. Today, I am a child and play is my work.

At Kleines Kinderhaus, I will strive to establish and maintain a safe, happy, warm, loving, natural and language rich learning environment for the children in my care. The child will be able to explore and let their imagination grow through their play as this is the child’s work, and in that, I believe strongly. Through their play they will learn concepts that they need to make sense to their surroundings and the world, but they also grow emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically, expand their language and learn basic knowledge like numbers and letters, that will build the foundation of further success.

I will strive to build a community feeling in the group of children, where everybody helps each other and feels comfortable. I also would like to achieve this with the parents where they feel free to share feelings, concerns and information with the others. Parent and/or family involvement is encouraged at all times at Kleines Kinderhaus as this is an important aspect of the child’s success. With the children and families, we will take on small projects and activities throughout the year that allow them to connect with their community.

The curriculum and activities will emerge from the children's interest. We may study a topic for a short time ot for a very long period. I believe children learn best when they are interested, when learning has meaning to them and when they are engaged in the activities.

It is a constantly evolving environment where we routinely change the toys, activities and materials available, adapting to the children’s social, emotional and cognitive needs and abilities as they develop and grow. At Kleines Kinderhaus we have many natural and plain toys that show no identity of characters from TV shows and so on, so the child can use its imagination in his/her play.

I will be introducing the children to the German language throughout the day by songs, stories, books, games, and instructions. Children will be encourage and mentored to use their minds, their bodies and their emerging expressive language to navigate the day to day challenges of growing and learning by the language they feel comfortable with.
